Me dress becomes mini-me dress

The first two days of Kids Clothes Week 2015 have past. This is the first KCW I am joining, how exciting! The theme for winter 2015 is upcycled. Recreating old garments into something better.

Now I do have a substantial stash of old clothes ready to be recreated. Really worn down clothes get chucked away, but all other garments are kept for for upcycling.... So is this tunic. Seriously, what was I thinking when I bought this?? I remember it was on sale as one button was missing, but really... why? I also remember it was in the period after my first pregnancy, trying to find my own style as a young mother. This was not it. And after all it was wishful thinking I would really get back to my skinny old body. This tunic never really fit. And the color does not do me any good either.... Ready for upcycling!

The tunic is both too small and too girly for my taste, so it is the perfect dress for T. So what did I do?: I kept the top part completely, as I really like that part. The tunic is shortened to the right lenght The buttons on the front cover exactly the full length of the dress . Oh, how I love it when things exactly work out. Now it looks like it opens from top to bottom (in reality the bottom button does not open). The back got a new higher waistline, simply because the old waistline was a too low. Obviously the tunic got narrowed down a bit.

At the moment T. is a difficult fashionista. It is hard to tell at forehand if she is gonna love or absolutely dislike something. But one thing is for sure: denim is definitely not her cup of tea, as the color is qualified as boring. To make this dress a little bit more her taste, the hem is finished with bright pink. I never used this technique, but I found it was really easy and I love the effect. I will definitely do this more often. Also I had to tackle the problem of the missing button. I made fabric button using some scrap fabric from my stash. It is perfect for using remnants of fabric. the buttons can be used for all kinds of things: just buttons, hair elastic, hair clips, fridge-magnets.

The question remains if T will actually wear this dress, if not it will get another chance for a retry in A's closet in 1 or 2 years.
