Last minute Eleena dress

My parents-in-law were throwing a 50th wedding anniversary party in spring. Obviously the tensions were rising as the party got closer... However I was not stressed at all. I stayed rather relaxed, thinking: my girls have plenty of nice things in their closet. You can guess where this is going to, right?!

ENGLISH
Suddenly one and a half week before the party I decided to make a new partydress for the eldest. And then, while this dress was not yet near to being finished.... I decided that it would be nice to have a matching dress for the youngest as well. What could make grandparents more proud then two of the cutest granddaughters in matching dresses? The Sound of Music effect, without the curtains. So the night before the party.... I started on another last minute dress. The hours before the party I frantically worked to finish these dresses to perfection. I am just so glad I did! It was so satisfying to see my girls in their matching dresses. They got so many compliments. It made them shine!

Both dresses are equally gorgeous. So both deserve their own blogpost. First up is the dress our smallest curly-head was shining in. This is the Eleena dress, the most basic option with short sleeves and no collar. This dress is perfect for my little curlyhead. She is rather skinny, but does have a toddler tummy. Classic dresses with bodice and skirt tend to be tight at her waist. This dress leaves plenty of room for her belly. And I think it looks just so cute on her! (but of course I am biased)

The fabric I used was a true fabric crush. At first I was afraid to cut into it. With the borderprint I always assumed that it was only suitable for shirred skirts. But after tracing the Eleena dress I realised it would work pretty well with an A-line as well. The only thing I had to take care of was that the water level at the side seams was the same. And of course I took care that the print continued at the center-back seam.

During the party my sweet little girl in her pretty dress kept catching my eye. To everyone who wanted to hear she told that mum made her dress. I could not have felt more proud!
