Pyjama in vermomming - secret pyjama

Velours je kan er niet omheen dit seizoen. Een heerlijk warme en zachte stof, maar ook een lastige. Want dat heeft toch wel een hoog baby en pyjama gehalte. Precies waarmee ik mijn meiden niet de straat op wil sturen. Gelukkig is er genoeg inspiratie te vinden online en in de winkels om er een kledingstuk voor overdag van te maken. Met het comfort van een pyjama, dat wel....

Velvet is a trend that is hard to miss this season. A lovely warm and soft fabric, but also a fabric that can easily be mistaken for pyjama's or babyclothing. Something I would not want my girls to wear when leaving the house in the morning. Luckily inspiration can be found everywhere online and in the shops.

Eigenlijk is dit een schaamteloze kopie van een jurkje bij Sissy Boy. Ik had het natuurlijk kunnen kopen. Maar ja, ik denk dan, dat maak ik wel even zelf... Echt... als ik alles zou maken waarvan ik denk dat ik dat 'wel even zelf maak', dan zou ik nooit meer slapen....Herkenbaar? Hoe dan ook, toen Ansje Handmade velvet stoffen in het assortiment toevoegde, besloot ik toch maar eens echt dat jurkje 'even' zelf te maken.

Naainotities
Deze jurk kostte wat creatief knip en plakwerk van verschillende patronen. Voor het bovenstuk gebruikte ik een raglan sweater uit de Knippie. Het was wat puzzelen qua maat. De dochter zit in een groeispurt en het was al een tijdje geleden dat ik wat voor haar maakte. Ik koos een maat kleiner dan haar lengtemaat (want de dochter is smal) maar stelde vast dat de hals veel te wijd zou uitvallen. Dus ik tekende 1cm extra naadwaarde bij de hals aan en knipte ook de boord twee keer zo breed. Vervolgens gebruikte ik voor de onderkant een patroon wat ik al tweemaal eerder maakte, de Indigo dress van Petitboo. De taille wordt in dit patroon gerimpeld door middel van smockelastiek op de spoel. Nog steeds één van mijn favoriete naaitechnieken. Mijn knip, plak, puzzel en gokwerk is precies goed uitgevallen. De jurk zit goed op maat, maar geeft nog genoeg ruimte om te groeien de komende winter.

Stofkeuze
De velours stoffen voor deze jurk kocht ik bij Ansje Handmade. Fijne zachte stoffen met een hoog percentage katoen. Een stof die heerlijk draagt, maar vrijwel onmogelijk mooi op de foto te zetten is.  Door de stoere boorden van Albstoffe te gebruiken, is het pyjama effect direct weg. Ook de applicaties helpen. Ze lagen al een tijdje in mijn kast te wachten, nadat ik ze kocht in de Action. Samen met dochterlief puzzelden we een leuke combinatie samen. Ik durfde ze niet vast te strijken. Velours slaat namelijk plat onder de strijkbout. Dus stikte ik ze (op de naaimachine) rondom vast met een kleine zigzag.

De dochter is dolblij met deze jurk. Zoveel zelfs dat ze hem uittrekt wanneer ze gaat buitenspelen. Ook al heb ik haar verteld dat deze jurk en stof toch echt wel tegen een stootje kunnen. En dat kleren er zijn om te dragen... Als ik haar was, dan zou ik deze pyjama in vermomming elke dag dragen!!!

Actually this dress is a shameless copy of a dress by the brand Sissy Boy. I could have simply bought it. Instead I said to myself 'Ah, I can easily make that, no need to buy.. Seriously.... if I was to make all the things that I think of 'easily making myself' then I would no longer sleep.... Recognisable anyone? Anyway when one of my favourite online fabric-stores added velour to her shop I simply decided to finally make that dress!

Sewing notes
This dress came about with some creative mashing of different patterns. For the top part I used a raglan pattern by Knippie. It involved some guesstimating in size, as my girl has grown a lot since the last time I had sewn her something. I adjusted the neckline that appeared to be way too wide. I added extra seam allowance and made the neckband twice as wide. This worked out perfectly. Then I lengthened the top to a dress. I used the Indigo dress by petitboo patterns as a template for the bottom part. The waist is shirred with elasticated thread on the bobbin. Still one of my favourite sewing techniques. I feel like my guesstimating and mashing patterns worked out perfectly. The fit is pretty good now but still has enough room to grow and take her through winter.

Fabric
The fabrics are purchased at Ansje Handmade. Lovely soft velour with a high percentage of cotton. It is very nice to wear, but very hard to photograph. By adding some cool cuffs the pyjama effect immediately disappears to the background. The patches  also help. They were in my stash for a while already, originally I got them from Action. Together with my girl we made a nice combination. They are iron on patches, but ironing and velour is tricky. So instead I sewed them on with a small zigzag stitch om my machine.

My girl is really happy with her dress. She loves it so much so, that she is afraid to wear it when playing outside. Even though I told her that this dress and fabric are pretty sturdy and clothes are to be loved ánd worn... If it was me, I would wear this secret pyjama every day!!!!
